For Lacan, to state that “tragedy is in the forefront of our experiences as analysts” (S VII, p. 243), and to posit an equivalence between “the ethics of tragedy” and “that of psychoanalysis” (S VII, p. 258), refers precisely to the price the subject has to pay to get access to this Real.
